Over a year has passed since lockdowns swept the world, and the work from home revolution is in full force. The suit and ties have spoken, and it’s safe to say working remotely is here to stay; and will continue to evolve.
Working remotely has highs and lows – especially for individuals with a position focused on cultivating relationships with buyers, and working closely with customers. I can speak to this personally – I relocated last year to be closer to the Xait client base, in Houston, Texas. Shortly after I relocated, the world was in lockdown, and all my meetings shifted to web calls.
Being successful in this new dynamic can be difficult, but is certainly not impossible. In fact, some people are thriving. However, there are some challenges that individuals working from home may face, despite the flexibility it offers. I’ve gathered a shortlist of ideas and best practices that myself and others here in sales at Xait follow to maintain efficiency – and sanity – when selling remotely.
Working remotely can offer a great amount of flexibility, but some individuals may struggle with the lack of structure that comes with it. Keeping to a routine, similar to what you may keep in-office, is a great way to maintain productivity. I find that having a designated workspace helps me stay on task, and in the right mindset. I actually recreated my entire desk space in my apartment, while a colleague in Norway chose to 3D print the Xait logo for their home office!
Without the proper tools, and understanding of how to use them, finding success in the remote sales world can be tough. A proper video conferencing solution should be in every salesperson's toolkit. Video calls (with the camera on!) provide a personal touch, and allow you to engage with customers in a way that is similar to an in-person cadence, as well as measure engagement. Take time to ensure you are familiar with video conferencing, chat, and social media tools.
This is one of the most essential aspects of cultivating a thriving remote workforce – offering avenues for people to share ideas, and interact. At Xait, we have a company-wide bi-weekly Virtual Coffee meeting! This allows us a chance to socialize with others, and share what we are working on. And for sales? It’s a chance to brag about our wins, of course.
Sales success in a remote world may seem far-fetched, but with the right approach and solutions at hand, it is fully attainable. How do you and your team stay efficient in a remote environment? Do you have the proper tools you need to be successful?
XaitPorter, our cloud-based document co-authoring solution, was essentially built for remote work. I may not be able to plan your routine or desk, but I can certainly help you create documents faster and more efficiently! Reach out to me or any of the Xait sales team to learn more.
